Girls Initiative & Incentive Gardening Program

The "GI&IP is an incentive and gardening program designed and created by De"Etta T. Brown, founder of North East Central Area Akidz Club Inc. in Feb 2007 and will end in 2011.

This Fresh Vegetable and Fruit Market will be operated by youth girls ages 9-14 years old that live in Ward 5 (NE Central area of Cleveland). This program teaches youth girls at an early age how to grow and harvest fresh produce to bring to kitchen tables in their urban communities and operate a small base business. These girls will maintain a garden, earn a small salary and sell fresh homegrown produce every Saturday at the market until the 1st week of September. The girls will prepare healthy fruit and vegetable smoothie samples and dishes, distribute recipe cards, and at the market by using their homegrown produce.

Athletic Programs
Since its inception the Police Athletic League has provided opportunities for children in the community to participate in positive, wholesome sports, recreational, and extracurricular activities. In this way PAL hopes to divert children from negative influences and enhance a child’s individual self-esteem, discipline, and self-actualization. PAL coaches help provide good role models, teaching athletes invaluable lessons in sportsmanship, perseverance, and respect for others as they develop into adulthood. Cleveland PAL sponsors many sport activities including; football, boxing, baseball, basketball, golf, tennis, karate, and many others.

The program is hosted currently by several of the City of Cleveland’s Recreation Centers and outdoor pools.  The Cleveland PALSITE Program provides early intervention to at risk inner-city youth by offering them a positive and productive environment that is available after school, on Saturdays, and during school vacations. The PALSITES Program is designed to have children interact with police officers in a positive manner,  as they participate in organized athletic events, special interest programming, and educational activities.  CLICK HERE TO VIEW PHOTOS OF THIS PROGRAM

Special Events Program
PAL sponsors several off-sire events each year. These activities include, but are not limited to: Major and Minor League professional sporting events, an annual fishing derby on Lake Erie, and a yearly Youth Leadership Conference. For many inner-city youth this is their only opportunity to be exposed to these types of activities.
